You may choose any sports-related article for this assignment, provided that: (1) it comes from a printed magazine, newspaper, or scholarly journal (examples include but are not limited to: Newsweek, New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Sports Illustrated, Journal of Sport Psychology), and (2) you can find something in the article that is relevant to a minimum of three of the following concepts discussed in the course: Data Collection in Sports; Using History to Understand Sports Today; Using History to Understand Sports in the Future; Social Interaction Model; Race and Ethnicity in Sports; Gender Ideology; Deviance in Sports; and Social Class in Sports.
Your paper should include the following:
- A summary of the article you have chosen; this summary should take up no more than one page of your paper.
- A description of the concepts from the course that you find relevant in order to explain/interpret the article; this description should take up about one page of your paper.
- An explanation of how the concepts you have chosen can be applied to your chosen sports article; this section should take up most of the space in your paper.
The paper must be three to four pages in length (excluding the title and reference page), and formatted according to APA style. Make sure that you include an introductory and concluding paragraph in your paper. You must use at least two scholarly sources in addition to the textbook to support your claims and subclaims. Cite your sources in text and on the reference page.
