Motivating Students

A myriad of theories and conceptual models have been developed in an attempt to define and characterize individual motivation. For example, intrinsic and extrinsic motivations are conceptual models designed to describe motivational influences of individuals. Some of these models include Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, Herzberg’s two-factor theory, motivation hygiene theory, Alderfer’s ERG theory, the self-determination theory, goal setting theory, McClelland’s acquired needs theory, and Vroom’s VIE expectancy theory.

For this assignment, locate at least two research articles on motivational concepts and theories, and identify one theory or motivation model that you believe is the most applicable to a school, organization, or classroom setting. In your paper, describe the theory or model and explain how the model or theory could be utilized/applied to increase student motivation within a classroom or school. Then, describe what obstacles might prevent the implementation of your plan. Include in your plan a discussion of the necessary strategies for overcoming the identified obstacles to effectively infuse these strategies into a school, classroom or organization. Be sure to cite at least two scholarly sources to support your plan. This paper should be three to four pages in length; this page length does not include the title page or references. Your paper should be in APA format.
