IN the spring of 2010 the community health nurse had 5 reports of E-coli gastroenteritis in or near Orangeville. This is unusual because the usual rate of reported E-coli gastroenteritis is less than one occurrence annually. Orangeville is a small community with low social economic status. The inhabitants continue to rely on well water and septic tank systems. The county nurse is investigating possible source of the outbreak and begins by examining watershed reports from the past 4 years. The E-coli levels in a dramatic increase in E-coli levels were noted in the last quarter of 2009 and into the first quarter of 2010 on the Organeville tributary. What are the contributing factors related to this outbreak? What conclusions can be drawn? Explain your conclusion.
