guidelines:
The purpose of this assignment is to provide students with an opportunity to learn more about an aging service or program by conducting library research on the aging service, challenges faced by the selected aging service/program, barriers to resolving the challenges, and to propose recommendations for change to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of the aging service or program.
Students are to obtain 6-8 scholarly sources for this assignment. No more than 2 scholarly websites can be used for this assignment! Scholarly websites include professional association, university, and/or government websites (eg. National Institutes of Health, National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, National Institute, National Institute for Neurological Disorders and Stroke, University of Maryland School of Medicine, Stanford University Center on Aging, Maryland State Dept on Aging, Administration on Aging.) The rest of the sources or references should include book chapters and/or journal articles for this assignment To do this, students will need to use the online databases to conduct literature search on their selected aging service. Suggested databases include but are not limited to MedLine, PsycInfo, CINAHL (nursing and allied health literature), Business Source Premier, Academic Search Premier, EconLit, SocIndex with Full Text, Health Source Plus. If you need assistance conducting your library research, Ms. Katie Sullivan, 410-455-3604, is the reference librarianfor aging and health topics and Ms. Simona Simmons, 410 455-3587, is the reference librarian for business/management related topics.
Please follow the outline below for this paper:
- Introduction (1 point) Briefly present the aging service or program you have selected, how it helps someone to successfully age, and why you selected it.
- Body (8 points): Describe the aging services/program and the policy or legislation which may fund it (if policy or legislation does provide for at least of its funding.) Please make sure you use information from scholarly journals, websites, and/or books.
- Description of the service or program and the policy or legislation which may support it, if there is policy/legislation providing funding for it. .
- Discussion of any issues or challenges (economic, political, social, cultural, psychological, business) that have impacted this program or service and the barriers to solving these.
- Discuss how you would attempt to resolve each of these challenges and why your proposed solution(s) would work.
III. Conclusion (1 point): Briefly summarize the main points of your paper and directions for future study or development/improvement of the selected service/program.
