Details:The term paper for this class will provide an opportunity to
explore in detail one aspect of US cinema since the 1960s and one
brief example of it. The paper is to be a combination original essay
and research paper, as explained below. It should be 7-9 pages long
(at least 2,300 words), typed, and also include a Works Cited page.
-One of the most important factors on the content of films after 1966
was the creation of the ratings system by the MPAA. Discuss the impact
of changes in film classification on US cinema from the late 1960s
onward. Discuss the transition from the Production Code to its demise,
the creation of the ratings system in 1968, the controversial films
that were initially made, the rise of X film in the 1970s, and the
various changes that have been made since. Focus on 1-2 films. -What
are you arguing in this paper? Be specific. Include the key words for
US film history/industry as well as the titles of the films you are
focusing on. What connection are you making between these films? How
are they related? Historically? Stylistically? Thematically? In terms
of industry? Production Code? Etc. How are you going to prove this?
Films, historical events, filmmakers, close analysis of scenes,
research… Why do you think this is relevant? Why does this matter to
us today? Why should anyone care? Make the thesis relevant to
today’s world even if you are focusing on films that are no longer
contemporary. How does your argument impact today’s film industry?
