Scenario: James is a fourteen- year-old teen, who was raised in a home without much love, and lots of alcohol and drug usage. When James was twelve- years-old, he did not show up for school one day, and had already missed a number of days just a few weeks before. When law enforcement found James, he was about three miles from his home, hiding in an old barn and was obviously drunk. When the police took him home, his parents did not even know he was gone, because they also were drunk and using drugs. His parents were arrested and booked into jail for child neglect. After the hearing, the judge ordered James’ parents into a rehabilitation program, and James was turned over to child services. While trying to reason with James about what had happened, he could not understand it, because he was raised that way; using drugs and alcohol was common for James. His mind was set on it being his fault that things were happening as they were, because if he had gone to school, instead of leaving home to get drunk, then everything would be normal again for him. What James did not realize was that his way of thinking was entirely wrong. James had to receive treatment in order to change what and how he had seen things, so far, in his short life. Slowly, James had to filter these things from his brain, start thinking positively about life, and just how he would handle everything. After a year without his parents, James became a regular fourteen-year-old, and his parents, who had gone through the same type of treatment process, had changed, too. Once they were in a better home environment, the emotional roller coaster ride was over. Today James lives with his parents in a positive environment, and he is back in school, now that his parents and he are not doing drugs and drinking alcohol.
