This assignment asks you to research and evaluate the issue of homelessness. Are structural problems responsible for homelessness, or are homeless individuals responsible for their own situation? First, I would like you to write a couple of paragraphs on your personal experiences with homeless individuals and share an opinion on the structural vs. individual argument. You are expected to take a definitive position on this (no sitting on the fence). Then, I would like you to use functionalist, conflict, symbolic interactionist, and postmodernist theoretical perspectives to analyze this social issue. You will be able to incorporate information from Kendall’s text, including Chapters 5, 6 and 7 as well.
