Clinical Method
Chapter 1 discusses the four goals of psychology (ie. Describe, Understand, Predict and Control) and also discusses the scientific method and ways in which researchers are able to meet these goals in psychological research. Pages 36 — 45 provides a detailed explanation of the methods used in the discovery of human behavior.
For this exercise you are to read pages 36-45 and consider the advantages and disadvantages of each research method.
Assignment:
In 1000 words minimum and in APA format (please see the video on APA Writing Here or at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGUfeM91mW8 ), review one of the well known case studies from the list provided below in psychology’s history. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of case study research as it applies to your chosen case study. ** Please note that because this is a Literature Review you won’t need to have the Abstract, Method and Results Section demonstrated in the APA video. Instead you will have your subheadings throughout (ie. Advantages of Case Studies, Disadvantages of Case Studies, Discussion). Be sure to cite references you use in your research.

Paper Expectations
- While many of you may not have experience writing in APA format, it is a college level writing requirement. In a typical 12 week course I teach students how to write in APA format, since your course is accelerated, you have my YouTube Crash Course Version of Writing the Academic Paper in APA. I expect everyone to view this video and follow this format in all of your written assignments.
- Your paper should have 1 inch margins, be double spaced, and use New Times Roman 12 point font. Please include your name and assignment on a cover page (this does not count toward page count). Please use MS Word to save your paper. This is on all the Keiser computers if you do not have it on your home computer.
- You will need to submit this paper via Blackboard dropbox (see below for instructions) by MONDAY AT 1159PM !!!! Papers received after midnight will be considered late and can lose up to 10 points off the grade.
- Your file name MUST included your last name in title. An example of a proper file name – Smith_CaseStudy
Ideas on How to Organize Your Paper!!
After your cover page you can start by providing a two paragraph introduction on Case Studies in general (your Introduction should be a general overview of what it is you’re about to discuss). The third and fourth paragraphs can be dedicated to the advantages and disadvantages of Case Studies. The fifth to sixth paragraph can introduce a summary of the case study of the person you chose to research (please remember your subheading example: The Case of Henry Molaison) and your Discussion (final page) can discuss more specifically the advantages and disadvantages of the findings that came about as a result of the case study.
