Details:The research paper needs to be about the struggles over the legalization of marijuana and the causes & consequences of that conflict. The struggles of legalizing marijuana needs to involve at least two or more groups and/or nations (rather than interpersonal conflicts). It can include any of the following types of political or social conflicts: social movements, revolts, riots, wars, revolutions, labor struggles, counter-revolutions, or other types of political conflict. A detailed guideline that needs to be followed is listed below: 1. Introduction (1 page): You should introduce your topic (or conflict) and/or the overall questions you will address in your paper. Explain why this is an important or interesting conflict to study. Your introduction should spark the reader’s interest and indicate what the paper will be about. You should also briefly and clearly introduce your main, overall argument (or, your thesis) for your paper. Your thesis should explain the main causes and consequences of this conflict. 2. Causes (3 pages): What kinds of groups or nations were involved in this struggle? What motivated them to engage in this conflict and explain their goals & consciousness? Did the groups have opposing ideas and/or interests? If so, what were they? Was this conflict related to social structures, such as capitalism, public policies, social inequalities, etc? Did groups face new grievances or political or economic opportunities that led them to take action? What kinds of resources did each group or coalition use to mobilize? How did each group mobilize and pursue their goal? 3. Outcomes (3 pages). What were the main outcomes of this struggle and what explains those outcomes? Was it due to the balance of political power, unequal access to resources, and/or the (in)effective strategy, tactics, or leadership? How did the public, employers and/or the government respond to this conflict? 4. Conclusion: (1 page) Restate your main thesis and discuss its implications. 5. Bibliography: Be sure to only list the references you cite in the paper. (ASA Format)
