The OAA is scheduled to be reauthorized every 5 years. The reauthorization process offers the opportunity for the oversight agency, in this case the Administration on Aging, to request additional funding to support new or expanding programs.
As you learned in Week 1, organizations and individuals lobby their Congressional Representatives to request their support for, or opposition to a bill. You also learned there are several ways to advocate; letter writing is one of them.
Write a letter to your Senator or Congressman/woman requesting that they support the reauthorization of the Older Americans Act. The use of proper formatting, etiquette and effective letter writing techniques to public officials will be part of your grade.
