Assignment 1 Justifying the Bill of Rights

Using computers, the Internet, and other resources, closely consider the Bill of Rights to the U.S. Constitution. Using all the material presented thus far in the course, analyze the activities you researched.

 

Write a 5-6 page paper in which you:

  1. Explain why the amendments are an important part of the U.S. Constitution and their effect on the legal system.
  2. Choose one (1) amendment that comprises the Bill of Rights for closer analysis. In your opinion, determine which amendment in the Bill of Rights offers the most protection for defendants. Explain your answer.
  3. In your opinion, suggest which amendment in the Bill of Rights offers the most protection for victims. Explain your answer.
  4. Give three (3) examples of how the Constitution affects your daily life.
  5. Use at least two (2) quality references. Note: Wikipedia and other Websites do not quality as academic resources

You may follow the directions exactly from Page 22 of the courseguide.  However, you may focus on point 2: Choose (1) amendment for closer analysis.  For example, you may focus on the 4th Amendment and spend the majority of pages discussing your thoughts — giving just a few sentences to the other points.

For citations, cite the amendments as

U.S. Const., Amdt. 4.  Or if you cite another amendment, e.g., as U.S. Const., Amdt. 2.

and the Davis case as

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
  • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.
