EVOLUTION OF SOCIAL BEHAVIOR AND OPPORTUNITIES THAT ARISE

This is a combination between sociology and business. Over the centuries social behavior has evolved and with it many opportunities have arisen for companies and organizations. One of the changes was the sexual revolution whereby the subject of sex is public and not a thing of shame as it was before. The change of perception on women and thus the rise of women into power has also been one of the major changes in societal behavior. All these have led to growth and development of businesses to serve the needs of these changes. For examples the development of gay bars has come up due to the slow societal acceptance of homosexual behavior. In this topic I will look closely at the societal changes that have occurred and how the business world has responded to these changes.

PROFESSORS FEEDBACK ABOUT THE TOPIC

Topic selection is very important – because I want you to be happy writing this paper, but I’ve now taught this class for two years as the only teacher – and I’ve read nearly 1000 papers – and I know what works and doesn’t work. When I consider recommending a topic – remember, this is a research paper and not a general interest paper. Your paper needs to be a paper that has a major research question you can get with library research. Writing a general interest paper (a paper with no research) will result in a failing grade, no matter how good it is. To this end, my recommendation would be the third topic as we discussed. It will be interesting to see the evolution of profit motive. Don’t forget a couple of key notes – read all of the hints about the paper under "Lessons" and "Course FAQ and Policies" – there is a lot of helpful information. Don’t forget to research APA format – and be very careful for plagiarism. If you paraphrase something in your own words, you still have to say where you got the information from that you paraphrased. The plagiarism detector I run catches about 30% of Grantham students engaged in unintentional plagiarism (which could be small – a sentence or two – or large – like a whole paragraph from a website) – so be diligent in your citations (and ask questions if you have them!). Another key mistake is that this requires you to use two disciplines, so you must show a complete understanding of two DIFFERENT disciplines – in other words, this can’t be just a government paper or just an economics paper – it has to be both. It should include resources from both fields – that is something I specifically look for in the paper. Don’t forget to use the library – in the FAQ – it has information on how to access the library and how to contact our librarian. I promise – it is easier than you think. It will actually make your job easier. Let me know if you have any questions, comments or concerns. I look forward to your paper.

Topic Development

Prepare a three to four page outline or summary (not including the title page and reference page) in which you develop a research question and provide supportive statements that clarify and elaborate upon, in an orderly manner, what it is that you propose to do in your Capstone Project (Practical Research: Planning and Design see pages 117-120). This assignment will enable you to hone-in or narrow the focus of your selected topic and provide organized thought as you continue to gather data and prepare to construct your paper. The research outline assignment must be written in MS Word, APA format, with a 12-point font (Arial or Times New Roman). Submit your assignment to your instructor.

Example:::

Students,

Okay – so you’ve selected your topic – you’re still a little freaked out over ths whole 4000 word paper thing and outline thing. I said it was going to be easier. Doing an outline will help. After you’ve picked a subject, email the librarian – see what it says. Assume you have an introduction and a conclusion. Consider 3 big areas of your research, and 3 small areas within the 3 big areas. Here is my sample outline for a paper on Schizophrenia (yours should be significantly longer – I shared some detail on Part A as a sample):

  1. Introduction

  1. Schizophrenia defined
  2. A) Paranoid Schizophrenia
  • What is paranoid schizophrenia?
  • Research discussing paranoid schizophrenia
    • Myers 2013 research
    • Jackson 2012 research
  • New DSM criteria and classification scenarios
    • Comparing the DSM IV to the DSM V
    • Research which indicates some of the differences
  1. B) Catatonic Schizophrenia
  2. C) Uncategorized Schizophrenia

III – Genetic Impact of Schizophrenia

  1. A) Twin studies
  2. B) Nature vs. Nurture
  3. C) Ethical Implications

IV Treatment of Schizophrenia

  1. A) Lithium
  2. B) Therapy
  3. C) Other neuroleptic drugs
  4. Conclusion

As you can see – if I write a half a page for my introduction and a half a page for my conclusion, and I write 1500 words for each of my 3 topics, I have well over 4500 words. If you consider this paper like 5 mini papers: an intro, a conclusion and three parts, and the three parts have three parts – you can sit down and write this as a series of 800-1000 word papers over the next few weeks and have this done. This is why it is important to submit your outline and topic. We are going to walk you through how to do this. It isnt really as scary as it seems. This paper is only scary if you don’t start on it early and all of a sudden it’s due. If you spend the time on it – it is a piece of cake.

Additional information:

Students,

Either because students don’t know how to write research papers, or they don’t have enough time – sometimes they buy research papers and sometimes they copy and paste information.

ANGEL has built in tools to where it will google search EVERY sentence of your paper to see if someone else, somewhere wrote that sentence. If another website comes up with that same exact sentence – it is considered cheating and you will get a 0. This will fail you from the course.

DO NOT GO TO WEBSITES AND COPY AND PASTE INFORMATION!

I will catch you. You will fail if this happen. You will then have to redo the course. I love my classes, but I don’t want to see you again until the next course. Make sure you CITE CITE CITE.

If you want to learn more about plagiarism – please go to this website and read up. It teaches you quite a bit on how to properly paraphrase – what is and isn’t plagiarism. This is a must read for the rest of your educational career.
